Games and dvd keep closing

Please help!

I've just installed xp home and had no problems. But now
when playing games or watching dvds they keep suddenly
closing without warning and throwing back into windows.
There are no error messages the programs just exit. I've
turned off the screen saver and disabled all the live
updates etc. There are no programs running in the
background which might cause the problem. But it keeps
happening less than 5 minutes into each game or dvd. Could
it be a problem with my CD driver? or a hardware conflict?

Help....

What are your computer specs; i.e., processor speed, amount of RAM,
power supply, how many devices you have in the computer (perhaps power
supply is not beefy enough to handle what you have), video card, what
this a clean install or upgrade? We need a lot more information to be
able to help you.

Athlon xp 3200. the fan is more than enough and keeps it
at 39oc. 500watt power supply. 1028mb ram. 80gig HD.
GeForce fx 5200. Its all compatible and works fine
normally its just when i run a program from my CD drive.
Its a Sony DVD/CDRW combo drive (bought from dabs.com and
didn't come with a driver disk. However xp seems to have
recognised it fine. Theres nothing disabled or not working
in devise manager. One thing it might be is that i ran my
mates copy of xp Pro for a few days as a trial (without
activating it) then bought and installed my own (genuine)
copy of xp home. I didn't format the HD drive inbetween
installations i just installed xp home over. will this
make any difference?

Yes, you can't install XP Home *over* XP Pro. Now you will need to do a
clean install. Nice box, though! ;-)
