I am running XP Home, SP1. I previously posted about a
problem with Norton and the sound on my (wife's)
computer. However, after I (a) uninstalled Norton
AntiVirus 2004, (b) updated her RealTek AC'97 sound
driver to the 11/17/03 version, (c) ran the
restoresound.reg program, (d) ran the DXDIAG program
(also rebooting more than once) and (e) went through the
entire sound troubleshooting routine within XP, she still
has no sound, at all. (NOTE: I did not reinstall Norton
and then lose sound; the sound was gone when it was gone,
too.) Windows Media Player will not even play a CD.
My system is a MEDION computer less than six months old,
but so far, tech support, there, has not helped. There
are no hardware conflicts. In other words, everything is
up to date in Kansas City, and I've gone about as far as
I can go. But there is still no sound. Further
suggestions?
