Ftp the Genuine Advantage Validation Tool install program?

Sounds lame but if it's possible then where? Pointless lame exercise
in futility going through Windows Update and IE. Just fails at the WGA
install. Windows Update doesn't return an error code. The useless
fail page says:
=========
Updates were unable to be successfully installed
The following updates were not installed:
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892139)
=========

Pointless exercise in futility. So I go to Microsoft's validation site
and guess what? Microsoft can only validates XP and Windows 2003, not
Windows 2000. Another pointless pita waste of time.

BTW, I have automatic updates on. No automatic updates since July.
Letting legit users run on known buggy software is just irresponsible
on Microsoft's part.

Hi;

The WGA does not effect Automatic Updates, so that isn't the reason you
haven't received any items via AU since July. Try this:

On the Start/Run line enter: "wuauclt.exe /detectnow"

That will force an AU event in a few minutes. If you don't get the AU
icon in your System Tray within about 10 minutes, open the
WindowsUpdate.LOG file (it's in the Windows folder) and check the last
10 or so lines that will pertain to that AU session. What error
information, to include error codes, is stored there?

BTW, a wild guess would be that you are running a firewall similar to
Zone Alarm, and that a recent update to that package has turned off the
use of ActiveX controls.
