FTP in HTTP site?

Newbie. FP 2003. Initially had FP in FTP mode. I had difficulty publishing
with my host. When I switched to HTTP mode (with which I am extremely
pleased) my publishing problems resolved. Today, I attempted to access my
site with FTP once again, but found only my previous, non-http site.

I am wanting to use FTP to upload files to the _private folder only because
the computer on which I am currently working does not have FP installed. No
intent to modify the active site.

Is it reasonable to expect to see the http site via a third party ftp
program? (I think that the host moved the site to a different server with
extensions activated). Are there other options to access the site on
machines without FP?

Many Thanks!

You host may not support FTP on the serve with FP extensions, you need to check with them.

PS
Do not use FTP on a site you are publishing to using Http w/ the FP SE
The FP SE will not recognize any 3rd party FTP activity and therefore will want to delete all the files you FTP'd (plus the FP
metadata is not updated, so when you go to publish w/ http in FP they may become corrupt)
If you have used it,
In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files - Usually in
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
Then Open the online site w/ FP and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and Publish changed pages back to your PC
