We're using Front Page to edit single web pages, not webs. I have a need to
FTP a single html file to a certain directory on a web server.

I can't seem to get Front Page to do that. The goal here is a solution so
that we can update a page in FP and then easily export via FTP to a
directory on a unix server.

My coworkers say that it can't be done, we have to go to an external FTP
program to do it. I said they were wrong, but now I'm not so sure.

I can't seem to do it from inside FP and if I try to set up an FTP network
place I can't get it to drop right into the directory where I want to save
the file.

Any help appreciated.

FP can only publish from within a web, so you must be working within a web locally.

Even if it is only a single file - that file must be part of some web site
somewhere, surely? Therefore you still need to open the 'web' for publishing.

Otherwise, if you're not publishing pages using frontpage server extensions, you
can publish with an external ftp program such as cuteFTP.

Is it your own server or an external host/service provider? they can provide the
details of the directory path to load your pages to.

Set up each page as a 1 page web and use the FTP mode of publishing including the FTP path

Thanks for all the help on this. I thought that a web required me to have a
bunch of support files, but if I can publish just a single file and not gunk
up the directory with FP hidden or cryptic support files -- that's great!

You will have the FP hidden folders/file when working with a web. If you don't want them, then
continue as you have and use a 3rd Party FTP application.
