using FTP to publish with FP 2003

I have just taken over a site that was not created in front page and is on a
server without FP extensions...I was able to use an ftp client to copy the
site to a folder...As far as publishing changes to the the site...I know that
I can use an ftp client like File Zilla but i would like to use the ftp
publisher in FP 2003....I followed the directions and it opens the remote
site...but all it shows in the remote site are 3 folders, they are: mail,
public, and vp....if I open vp I see the name of the site but no pages in
there?? If I try to type the path on the ftp directory line that I had to use
for the ftp client which is /u/vp/sculptureinthepark.org/www/ it tells me
that the folder does not exist on the remote site and wants to create
it...Here is what i typed in theRemote website location line
ftp://ftp.sculptureinthepark.org that will open the remote site but again I
do not see the site files there on the remote site...I am reluctant to
publish using theFP ftp window thinking that I may mess up the site....any
help would be appreciated....Shouldn't i be able to see all the folders when
i open the remote site...it takes the user name and password just fine. The
directions for publishing using an ftp client are: ftp.frii.com then the user
name and password and when it opens i can navigate to
/u/vp/sculptureinthepark.org/www/ and see allof the files. In front page I
check the ftp box and type in ftp.sculptureinthepark.org then the username
and password and it opens the remote site but only shows me the three folders
that i listed above...What am i doing wrong if I let it publish this way will
everything be ok...i do not want to wipe out the site or mess it up

Your FTP login must be mapped by your web host directly to the folder that is to hold the web
content for FP to be able to publish to it via FTP mode.

FP can not open a site that doesn't have the FP extensions.
