Remote site FTP problem

We use front page 2003 but do not published to a server that has FP
extensions. We just use FTP. When I set up the Remote site properties I am
prompted fro a username and password, enter them and get a message that says
it is unable to open it. If I use IE7 ant type in the the ftp address I am
propmted for a user name and password and the ftp site opens.

What do I need to do?

Exactly how are you entering the ftp address in FP?

I normally use ftp://domainname.com without troubles.

Interesting, I use ftp://ftp.homemail.com.au where homemail is my domain
name. (This appears when I click the "Remote Web Site Properties" tab)

One problem is that I have to enter username and password every time. These
used to be retained, but not since I have reinstalled FP2003 in my new PC
after the old PC crashed.

Is there some way of retaining this?

I seem to remember someone saying IE itself has an option for retaining this
info. I did have a folder of "Useful Hints" for things such as this but
this also got lost at the crash. And I must be suffering from Old-Timers'
Disease since I don't remember all the useful stuff that I should

Passwords used by FP are "stored" using IE
In IE use Tools > Internet Options > Security
Click on 'Trusted' and on 'Custom Level'
Make sure the selection at the bottom is set to:
'Automatic logon with current username and password' and click OK
Click on 'Sites' and add your site URL in the 'Add this Web Site to the Zone', and OK, OK
- note: you may have to unselect the option: Require server verification (https)... to add your site

Well, I am sure that at one time I did this and it saved correctly.

But now I can't figure out how

When I open FP and attempt to open my site ftp://ftp.homemail..com.au, I get
this username: HP12297170721\Administrator (which is my PC name and user)

I opened IE and added this to Trusted Sites ftp://ftp.homemial.com.au,
clicked OK etc and exited IE. (I had unselected the option: Require server
verification (https)... to add your site)

I changed the username and password in FP and exited. The next time I
entered FP, the username was HP12297170721\Administrator

I have tried every combination of IE being open or closed or FP being open
or closed when I make the changes and the two don't seem to interact.

Is there a registry change which will make it all easier ?

Or is a restart needed?

I am confused. I don't know what the "and" means in the sentence and where
to set the values

There are two places to set the address
1. In Internet Options
Security
Trusted Sites
Sites...

I have tried in here
ftp://ftp.homemail.com.au
ftp.homemail.com.au
homemail.com.au

2. In FP Remote Web Site Properties
I have set this to
ftp://ftp.homemail.com.au

I cannot remove the leading "ftp://" as it won't continue if I do - clicking
OK does nothing

In all combinations of 1. with 2. I still get
Name: HP12297170721\Administrator
Password: blank

Is this a lost cause?

The "and" meant to set them both as you already have

And yes it is a lost cause as on some sites no matter what you do the PWD is never remembered
