frozen desktop upon startup

Hatish

When XP Professional starts up, my desktop is frozen. I
can open a window, eg. Desktop properties, but then the
window gets frozen. I can see everything in the window,
its just that nothing responds to my mouse or keyboard.

However, when i hit ctrl-alt-del, and task manager comes
up, everything seems to right itself.

Please can someone help me with this problem.
I have SP1 installed.

Many thanks...

.
Run in this order: adaware 6 for file C. (you should be
able to quarantene and delete anything it picks up).
Then run XP anti-virus (options to delete all alerts).
Download and run Spybot (be selective what you delete but
it usually knows what your computer doesn't want). Then
uninstall Spybot. Go to www.blackviper.com and click on
Windows XP services. Scroll down to the settings. Then,
leaving that screen there, go to
start/run/services.msc/ok. Use his "Safe"mode choices
for each item (with the exception of Themes - keep it on
automatic). Then exit out of all that back to desktop.
Hit Start/run/msconfig/ok/start-up. All that needs to be
checked there are: ccregvfy, ccApp, avsched32, dlhelper,
and RECGUARD. Everything else can be safely unchecked.
Then X out and go to C/properties and run defrag and then
disk clean-up. Let it get rid of all selected items.
Reboot.
