frontpage publishing

Hello,

I wonder if you can help me. I have desperately looked at all tutorials but
I have a problem publishing my page and cant find the answer.
I used frontpage to upload to my site and the index page publishes but no
other pages. It says they cannot be found because they were uploaded
incorrectly etc or the url is wrong. But everything is correct and the web
pages are all there in the folder with the index page. Now I did each page
individually, is this the problem, should i redo it as a full web? But then
what happens when i wish to add a page - this too wont then publish.
And all the links are also correct, I have checked.
Is there something I am missing, that I am supposed to do.
All my pages are in the same folder: my documents/myweb
I upload the pages to ftp site and also http but still only the index page
loads and when i click the link to take me to the next page it says its not
there (but the link is correct and the page is there with the index).

Please spare a moment of your knowledge to help me, its driving me insane.

Check that you have actually uploaded the page and that file name and case are exactly same as the
links.

Under Unix/Linux servers, home.html and Home.html or HOME.htm is not the same file, whereas under
Windows they would be considered the same file.

yes the pages have uploaded, the file names and case are all the same but
still only the index is visible on the web. FP extensions are apparently
loaded on my host too, I also reloaded them too be sure. i have been through
it meticulously. Is it because i created each page separately rather than as
a web?

You must work within a web/site and then publish the web/site for all of the pages/files to be
consider part of the web/site

I have done this now, everything is within the web site (the folder has the
blue globe on etc)
Is there some way i can test all the links to each page while in frontpage,
if so, how?

Tony -

Okay, good --- the fact that previously you had just individual pages instead of pages within a web is
what was causing your publishing problems.

To check your links (this is for FP 2002 but should be similar in other versions) go to View | Reports |
Problems | Broken Hyperlinks.

Ok, great. Everything is working now apart from the guestbook page.
The test comments I made dont go onto the page. They are there on the
guestlog.htm but not posted to the site. I know that it says it will work if
FP extensions are installed which my server control panel says they are (I
even reloaded twice). Is there some kind of link or somewhere i am to insert
something in the form field?

Try re-creating the guest book directly on the live/remote server from within FP.

Call me stupid, I'm new to this but how do I do that?
When i log on the ftp:// there are no options to open the page with FP so
how do I edit the page? And then how do I save a copy back to my pc so i dont
overwrite it (if it works)

T

Thomas A. Rowe

If you have to open or publish using ftp:// then none of the FP run-time components, such as forms,
guest book, discussion web will not work.

I dont have to, I originally uploaded my site to http://mysite.com (etc) but
I dont know how to look at or edit my site on the server. So I do all my work
on the pc and then publish the changed pages. How can i edit directly?
Obviously when i go to http:// then i just go to my site like anyone else. My
service provider (if it helps is godaddy (although i have heard bad reviews
and will change).
But how do i edit on the server?

Ok, then File Menu | Open Web / Site and then enter your http://www.yourdomain.com then your login
info, then click Ok, then click Open.

Ok good, i can open it for editing. but everything except the shared borders
are gone from the guestbook page when i do this. So i will just create a new
page but where do i insert pics from etc, from my pc or live on the web? and
how (if from my web folders)

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Your images should have already been imported into your web / site when you worked with it locally.
You can still import them into the live/remote site. Once you have everything working on the
live/remote site, you will need to publish a copy back to your local.
