Running Vista build 5600. When using Frontpage 2003, if I attempt to insert
a hyperlink, Frontpage crashes when you select the page the hyperlink should
point to. Anyone else experienced this or have a solution?

Same here, I have installed FP2003 (11.6356.8107) SP1 on Vista Ultimate
(finale release). Manual written hyperling works, but when clicking on a page
within the open site (siteexplorer) FP terminates and a Service solution box
opens. This Service note tells me to go to the page
http://office.microsoft.com/nb-no/downloads/FX101859091044.aspx, but this
page does not exist. (This web page is unavailable ->
http://office.microsoft.com/_servic...wnloads/FX101859091044.aspx&aspxerrorcode=404)

Here is the service note:

Download updates for Microsoft Office System Software

This problem was caused by Microsoft Office System Software. Microsoft
Office System Software was created by Microsoft Corporation.

We've detected that an update is available for your Microsoft Office System
product. This cumulative update fixes many of the errors customers have
reported to us through the error reporting system.

Solution

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Get the update from the Office Update website
(http://office.microsoft.com/nb-no/downloads/FX101859091044.aspx)

Note: There may be more than one update to install at the Office Update
website. We recommend you install all Required Updates on this site to keep
your Office System software up to date.
If you are asked for the original Office System CD-ROM
If you are asked for the original CD-ROM you used to install Office and you
don't have the CD-ROM available, make sure you are using the larger update
files. To do this, follow these steps:

Go to Office Update.
Click Check for Updates. Office Update will check your computer for updates
you need.
After Office Update checks your computer, click Options (in the upper right
corner, just below the Go button).
On the Options for using Office Update page, select Use larger update files
that should not require access to my product CD or network installation
location.
Click Save. Office Update will check your computer again for updates you
need.
After Office Update checks your computer, click the Agree and Install button
to install the updates.

The only solution I've found is frustrating: type in the hyperlink manually
rather than clicking on what you want the hyperlink to point to

I'm experiencing the same thing. I also have the Frontpage 2003 along

manually typing each hyperlink?

"Edit."

I love it - Microsoft can't even get a friggin' HTML IDE right.

I just got new computer with Vista Home Prem and having the same problem. I
am doing via the server not on hard drive and I get the same crash. It even
told me I had to download update. Which I did but still same problem.

I picked up notebook on Windows XP and finished it off with no problem.

You would think MS could avoid conflicts with their own software.

Anyone know of a patch or fix as of yet.

I am having the same issue as well as a problem with composing e-mails in
Outlook Web Access. That problem is addressed in kb 911829 and requires a
hotfix be installed at the server. Could these problems be related?

Hello,

Why are some folks having trouble with this and some are not? I too am not
able to use Frontpage 2003 and Vista together, keep getting the "server
error" messages. I finally got so irritated that I reinstalled XP so I could
keep administering my website. I refuse to buy Expression Web just so it will
work with Vista, these programs cost money, you know. Vista already rendered
my HP scanner useless. I guess that I will just reinstall Vista at a later
time once all of these bugs get worked through. Please let me know if anyone
has found a fix for the Frontpage issue. I am wondering, perhaps, if the
problem exists only in specific editions of Vista or not. For instance, I am
running Home Premium. Maybe there is a function in Ultimate or Business that
makes Frontpage 2003 work. Thoughts?

What version of Vista are you running? Is your site password-protected (or
any part?), or is it public? I wonder if because parts of my site are
protected if maybe that is causing some kind of problem. Let me know.

Hi

I am using Home Premium as well. I don't however use
FrontPage for uploading to my site. It's only a small public
family history site.

So, you don't administer your site using Frontpage? Are you just coding HTML
and uploading via FTP? I get the error when I am connected to my site through
Frontpage and try to save a page or insert a hyperlink.

Hi

Yes that's correct. Sorry I should have made that clearer in my
first message.

I will have a try with FrontPage but I am short on
time at the moment.

So, is there any word on the fix yet? Not that I had a lot of faith
in MS but whatever I did have is quickly going.

You can do two things to fix the problem do this to your registry
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, add FrontPage to the list of Internet Explorer
compatible programs. To do this, follow these steps:

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.1. Click Start,
click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Application
Compatibility
3. Right-click Application Compatibility, click New, and then click DWORD
Value.
4. Type Frontpg.exe, and then click OK to name the DWORD value.
5. Double-click Frontpg.exe.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.

You should also go to http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/index.htm and download
the FPcleaner and run that program. YOUR PROBLEMS WILL BE FIXED.

I've seen this "fix" all over the web, and while it appears to be working for
some, it isn't working for everyone. Anyone got any other tricks up their
sleeve? This fixwas a bust for me and my system.
