FrontPage 2002 problem

T

Tim Finan

I am having trouble using FrontPage 2002 to manage an
existing web site, and I can't get an answer anywhere !

Whenever I connect to the site (only from ONE particular
computer), I get inundated with username/password prompts
and "You dont have permission to do this operation"
messages. If I am patient and actually enter my
username/password each time (up to 10 times per page), it
will eventually give me the page to edit ! I am running on
XP Pro.

I can manage this site just fine from my other PC (Win2K
Pro) with the same version of FrontPage, same
username/password, etc. Both PCs are on the same LAN.

I can manage *other* sites (also created with FrontPage)
from this same PC (the one giving me the problems), so it
probably is not the PC itself.

Any ideas ????
Thanks,
Tim Finan

That usually happens when you open the site
in the browser and then click edit.
Does it do the same if you open FrontPage
and then select Open Web and then enter
http://domain.com ??

Yes, it does it all the time. The common denominator
seems to be ANY user on THIS PC. Any valid user (with
privs for the site in question) has this problem on my
PC. However, it seems to happen ONLY to this site. I can
manage many other sites from this PC without any problem.

Are there any security gotchas, whereby the server may
have for some reason 'tagged' my PC (IP address) as being
untrusted ?

For repeated password prompts see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=250376 and
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=287402
Also try some clean up
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, and MS Office
5) Delete the site in your network places folder
