Hi,
I installed Win XP over Win NT and ended up with a dual boot.
You did a new installation, not an upgrade.
How can I uninstall Win NT without wiping my disk?
Boot WinXP, open Windows Explorer and delete the system folders for the
WinNT system. Then start/run C:\boot.ini and remove the reference to the
unwanted system from the [operating systems] section. Close saving changes.
You're done.
Do I need to uninstall everything, go back to Win 98 then upgrade to Win
XP?
I though you said WinNT? If you upgraded Win98, you would be able to
uninstall XP and revert. If you upgraded WinNT you would not be able to
uninstall XP, it's a one-way trip. In either case, removing the secondary OS
is the same (see instructions above).
I would really rather not do this, but I really want to get NT off my computer. It's
causing problems with several programs.
The existence of another Operating System should have no effect whatsoever
on programs installed under WinXP. However, if you did a new installation
(as previously mentioned) and not an upgrade, and are trying to run programs
installed under NT or 98, then that is the problem. The programs need to be
installed in the WinXP environment. An upgrade would have carried the
program(s) into the new environment, but that's not what you did at
installation.
