Frequent Hangs

This has been happening for quite sometime now. My Sony
Vaio System just freezes and does not respond to any key
strokes. There is no sequence it is just random. It
freezes at least 4 to 5 times in 1 or 2 hours. So when it
freezes I have to do a hard reboot. Any help would be
appreciated.

OS: Windows XP Home Edition
Laptop: Sony Vaio, AMD Athlon 1.2 GHZ, 512MB RAM

Are you running more than one program at a time?
Are you using a photo program, like Pibture-it?
Do you listen to music, while using other programs?

Yes, I am running more than one program like browsing +
work on Web Matrix...

No I am not listening to any music.

All these days I was wondering whether my Remote Keyboard
or Mouse has got something to do. But I have disconnected
them, but the problem continues to happen...
