XP freezes

I am running Windows XP home edition on the Sony Vaio
notbook. It has AMD Athlon processor. The problem is my
note freezes. Even the note book is idle it hangs if let
it run for an hour or so. Please give me suggestion how
can debug this problem? Thanks.

Also I have found the power saving (turn off hard drive / turn off monitor)
cause problems in 9x. You might like to illimate them as possible causes.
