Freezing up?!? PLZ HELP!

I recently installed XP, and when i am playing games it runs really good but all of the sudden it tottally freezes. Cant even ctrl alt del it closed. My vid drivers are updated and i have directx 8.1. When i freeze up i have to power down or hit reset button....

Without knowing your system specs. this will only be a

geuss,but try disableing indexing service via admin
tools>services

Might want to watch your CPU temperature.
