Freezes at 'Variable browser hijack...'

My MS Antispyware freezes, stops responding, at that part
of the scan. This is the first time it has happened. My
guess may be that it is conflicting with Tiny Firewall,
that I recently started using. Any input would be appreciated!

Hi

Download CCleaner and remove all temporarily junk.
www.cleaner.com

Restart in safe mode, press F8 during reboot/start.
choose fullscan with all options checked.

Restart.

No problem with your firewall I believe, is SP2s firewall deactivated ?
Only run 1 firewall !

Hey again! I did that, and to no avail. Still stopped
responding. I cleaned all temporary junk, and registry
issues. Although not the advanced part of cleaner. It did
get a hair further by saying "possible browser hijack
browser modifier". Could this be a false alarm? I am pretty
well protected, firewall, AV, and resident protection. I
have never had spyware or anything modify my IE favourites.
I recently added Spyware Blaster. I just tried turning off
all protection, and it did not help.

Do you think I should uninstall/re install MS AS?

TIA!

Hi

I believe this is a false/positive but to be sure you can
do this. (from what you writes I can see that you know what you are
doing ;) )

Next level in this "war" against spyware is a program called
HijackThis.

Download and also a link to excellent forums using this program.

How to use HijackThis (be careful):

Happy hunting...... !

You can use Sygate and MS Antispyware without any
conflicts. I suggest you remove the Tiny Firewall to
avoid issues.

I am running MS Antispyware on two Dell's both with XP
and Norton SystemsWorks. One runs the Beta1 OK the other
shows "Not responding" in the task manager and 95%+ for
CPU useage. Any ideas, I am going to uninstall and
reinstall now.

With the recent M$ prgm update ... they changed an old issue "polymorphic browser hijack scan" to "variable browser hijack scan" ... lol ... exactly the same thing, but the former was getting a lot of negative google hits. That's how I found out about the issue. MSAS beta1 totally corrupted my TCP/IP stack ... and when you can't get back on the internet, it's hard to hunt down answers with a single PC. See these threads:

Hope this helps shed some light on the continuing M$ problems with this prgm.
