freeze ups

I have had Windows XP installed on my computer since its availability. But
now when I start my cpu I have freeze ups.
I have to turn my cpu off at the power switch and turn it back on. This has
to be done 3-4 times before the freeze ups stop.
Also, at times my monitor shuts off, or my monitor shuts off and the system
restarts.
SEND THE CALVARY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN I
DO??????????????

GV is right. You may well have a virus. Did you run the update
Microsoft e-mailed you? If so, that's it. Microsoft NEVER attaches files
or patches or uses links to do updates. If you have virus protection, go to
there web site and see if they have a download available to fix the problem.
Also update your virus program.
