Freeware Mail/News Reader with Authentication settings???

Does anyone know of a good freeware Mail/News reader that has setting
for authentication?

The last few months, Sympatico are putting new customers on Hotmail
servers and only support Outlook and Outlook Express. Some clients will
receive, but not send for email.

I've managed to get Opera working, but don't really like its handling of
NG's. I like Thunderbird, but it won't send either, failing authentication.

TIA

I think Thunderbird has a plugin for hotmail. I don't know how Sympatico
are working, and whether you would need a hotmail plugin but it is worth a
try?

I'll look for it but I'm suspecting that it won't work. New Sympatico
users can access their email as web mail through a Sympatioc/MSN site,
or it will work in Outlook/OE using their new server ID's, but it
doesn't work with anything else.
Thanks for the tip
