Email Freeware & Pipex

Vargr

Apart from the Windows O/S my second PC is built using entirely freeware.
Whilst I can get outlook (both express and 2003) to work with the Pipex pop
and smtp servers. I have totally failed to get any freeware mail software to
talk to Pipex. so far I've tried Aethera, Eudora and Mozilla Thunderbird.
(of the 3 I like the Aethera front end most)

Has anybody had any luck getting the Pipex mail servers to talk to anything
other than Microsh*ft? If so, can you give me any clues or pointers?

TIA

I haven't had problems with Eudora ever. My settings as followed:

Login: username%dsl.pipex.com
smtp.dsl.pipex.com
pop.dsl.pipex.com

Configuration: POP
Auth Style: Passwords
Auth Allowed? (Yes)
Default Domain (blank)

Thanks for letting me know that it could be done. I upgraded from version
6.1 to 6.2 and now Eudora's working for me as well.

Never had any problems ever with anything except if I typo while telnetting
in.
I seriously doubt it's down to the software.

Hi

I use "Pegasus" (freeware mail) with no problems -
<http://www.pmail.com/>

I also use "G-Lock Spam Combat" (similar to Mailwasher) which is also
quite happy with Pipex.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. Knowing that they worked was enough
let me go back and look at them again.

I got Eudora working by upgrading from V6.1 to 6.2

I got Email working with Thunderbird by swapping round user ID's and Email
addresses, but I couldn't get the nntp.dsl.pipex.com newsgroups to work -
with email on USERID%dsl.pipex.com and newsgroup on (e-mail address removed)
there doesn't seem to be a second validation panel to let me put in the
different details.

As for Aethera - No joy whatever - pity I like its built in calendar and
contacts like outlook 2000 and its local weather on the front page.

Anyway, thanks again.
