Free IRC Clients

Don't get me wrong, I like mirc, but this day and age theres alot of
other IRC clients out there and I am interested in seeing what all is
available.


I've seen two so far that sound promising:

First is BersIRC (http://bersirc.free2code.net/), which appears to be
full featured and open source.

Second is VortecIRC (http://www.vortecirc.com/index.php), which appears
to be free and modeled after pirch, for those of you who remember pirch.


Can any of you make some recommendations? Which IRC clients do you find
best?

I have been rather pleased with GAIM as a chat and IRC client, although
my demands are quite minimal.

HydraIRC is the best that I've found.

I tried HydraIRC and found the on-screen bloat to be unacceptable.
Some of it might have been reduced with some effort, but at that
time I was already a staunch X-Chat user. You can get free versions
of X-Chat at the following places:

http://www.psyon.org (fully featured, includes plugin compatibility)
http://www.silverex.org (slightly less features but not so bloated).

Of course, if you support X-Chat, you can purchase the commerical
version from http://www.xchat.org
