You should give XCHAT a try. It was originally based off Linux but
now runs fine under Windows using GTK runtime environment for windows.

file since version 0.3.1. I have been using miranda (irc) almost

services. I will try the irc portion as well.

You are welcome. As I wrote a little earlier, the irc protocol is
now natively included in miranda's installation file : no plugin
needed.
