Any Recommendations for IRC?

John Latter

Hi,

Can anyone recommend any freeware IRC programs?

I've just started using IRC and at the moment I have:

1) Trillian

I like it 'cept I sometimes get 'flooded' (if I'm using the term
correctly) where other users text is downloaded while mine remains
unsent til there's a pause. I like the box of smilies too!

2) mIRC

Seems ok (once I changed the font) but no smilies :(

I've been told about add-on 'scripts' - can anyone recommend any for a
newbie? or any that are considered essential?

Any advice would be welcome, I've tried googling and there's lots of
stuff there but I thought someone might recall how they began with
Trillian (free) or mIRC

Chatzilla is good and easy to use. It comes as a component of the
Mozilla Suite, and it is also available as an extension for Firefox,

Thanks stxol - I've downloaded firefox & chatzilla & will give 'em a
try later!

HydraIRC is an open source chat prog. I've just downloaded it myself but
have read good things about it. You can check their website at
