You can ftp the pictures to your web site, give your friends the url and they
will be able to view and download them.

does anyone know where I can get a free (or cheap) ftp site so that I can
host some photo's for friends to look at?

Rather do ftp than start my own website, but can't really find anything
suitable on google.

Open a free yahoo account and post them in My Photos. I believe you're
allowed 250 MB.

Really? I Googled for "free photo hosting" and got over 9 million links.
I see one of them is for PhotoBucket which I know my son uses to put
his pictures for a popular online community (Gaia). You might want to
give it another Google.

sorry, i also want to host some movie files too, so http out of the
question, same with Yahoo. can store stuff in yahoo briefcase, but not
much. Also need people with yahoo ID to view them?
