Free file hosting for downloads

I'm a webauthor and was wondering if anyone uses a free service for
allowing people to download programs. I myself have webspace provided
but I can't actually provide downloads because of bandwidth and other
issues.

I have some real gems that are not freeware anymore and would like not
to link to other peoples downloads.

Thankyou in advance tf76

Here's the link to the 'Free File Host List' for November at gHacks.

Thanks, but it seems that the link has expired, though. :)

I think direct sub-page links are disabled. Go to gHacks' homepage and
click on 'Free Files Host List November 2005' under 'ghacks
highlights', 'top lists' on the left side of the page.

Depending on the number of files and the traffic you anticipate,

http://www.rapidshare.de/

might be worth a look. Check the FAQ. You upload the file, they
email back a link. As long as the file is downloaded at least once
every 30 days, it can remain indefinitely.

If you're talking about a dozen files or so this will work, even if
ONLY YOU download the files once a month to keep them active. If
you're talking about hundreds of files, then this isn't the solution.

I think you'd like to try

http://www.come2store.com

Once you register, you can have an account and begin uploading your
files instantly, provided that each file won't exceed 10 MB, or
otherwise it would be rejected. It claims to supply unlimited total
storage and the server won't delete any of your file as long as the
account is active, so there's no 30-day limit. And you don't have to
wait 20 plus seconds if you want to download more than the server
expected.

I used to use Rapidshare to host my file but I found that some users
didn't understand how to get the download link (inconspicuous and
ads-laden) in Rapidshare.

If you go to

http://www.come2store.com

make sure you have a good pop up blocker. Pop ups from this site
installed 3 unwanted programs that I had to uninstall. I also ended up
with over 100 spyware objects being installed.
