fp extentions ARE installed.. but I can't upload forms and search page???

S

Suga

The following pages in your website contain dynamic Frontpage components,
such as SEARCH FORM or a Front PAge FORM HANDLER. They will NOW work
because the server you are publishing to does not have the FP server
EXtensions or SHARE POINT team services from Microsoft installed.

Then my forms and database and SEARCH pages show in the box

then it says:

TO UPGRADE to the latest version of the FP server Extensions or Sharepoint
team services from Microsoft contact your ISP or your system administrator.

WHY am I getting this???? I installed it in my site. It says that my
website (www.wahm.com) has FP extensions installed when I go thru my Cpanel6

global.asa not going thru

_private forms not going thru

search.htm not going thru ... none of these will publish

forms ARE NOT working on site
what is going on?

OK, you installed the server extensions on your server,
but did you then extend your specific virtual server?

If not, under Administrative Tools, open IIS Manager,
then expand the entry for your server, expand Web Sites,
right-click the Microsoft SharePoint Administration
entry, and click Browse.

Then, on the resulting page, under Virtual Servers, click
the Extend link for your server.

These instructions, BTW, are for the FP2002 server
extensions. If you're running FP2000 or earlier
extensions, you really should upgrade.

if anyone can lead me to my solution - I would be so grateful.

Steve,

Well that explains why Suga can't use any related to ASP or the database
component.

I thought that CPanel6 supported ASP and database stuff....

please see the website page:

the website host supports A LOT of things.

????? at this point... after looking at that...what can I do herE???

I need forms!!! order forms on my site : www.wahmwraps.com

I am really in trouble here... I started my halloween campaign already and
things are all messed up now.

please help me out. someone.

Port 21 is the FTP port.

For FP extensions and component to work, you must publish via FP's http
mode.

So you need to use File Menu | Publish Web and enter the http://www.wahm.com
URL and then your login info.

Since your site is hosted on Unix/Linux you will not be able to use any of
the FP database components. However since your host does offer Windows
servers, they will need to move your account to one of those servers,
specifically one that is a Windows 2000 server, you do not want to be hosted
on Windows NT server.

ok so I think I will just cut and paste what you said.... I think they just
switched something around too.

I should tell them to move me from Unix/Linux to Windows 2000 server. ...
NOT NT ....

and then ALL my FP components will work.

BTW* I do publish via File|menu|publish web| then I enter in my website and
password|
I always do that.

so when I get this switched everything will work?

what if it doesn't? then what ????

can't I just switch my tools .... page options ... compatibility ....
CUSTOMER SERVERS-- apache instead? no?

Yes, if you want to use ASP and the FP database components.
and then ALL my FP components will work.
This depends on what the host wants to allow users to use.
BTW* I do publish via File|menu|publish web| then I enter in my website and

Ok, but with the FP extensions you must enter http://domainname.com and not
ftp://domainname.com
so when I get this switched everything will work? Hopefully!

what if it doesn't? then what ????
Post back here with any error messages, etc.
can't I just switch my tools .... page options ... compatibility ....
CUSTOMER SERVERS-- apache instead? no?
Yes, but then you can't use the ASP and database component, as they are not
supported under Unix/Linux servers.

Thomas,

Thank you for taking so much time to help me out here.

I do not use the FTP when using FP2002. I know that it is not the same
thing as an actual FTP program. *LOL* THat much a I know!!!!!

I guess I am most confused as to why they advertise that you can use FP2002
and it will work and so will the FP extensions...

AND THEN IT DOESNT WORK even when installed. HOW FRUSTRATING. they must
know that it won't work.

I am still waiting to hear back from my host guy!

Yes, if you want to use ASP and the FP database components.

No problem.

I only mention this because you indicated a Port 21 error message.
I guess I am most confused as to why they advertise that you can use FP2002
and it will work and so will the FP extensions...

First the FP extensions and ASP (FP database component) are completely
separate technologies. The FP extensions are available for both Windows and
Unix/Linux servers. ASP is a default part of Windows servers and it can be
added to Unix/Linux servers via 3rd Party ASP add-on that a host would have
to purchase. The ability to use Access/Excel as a data source is limited to
Windows Servers. If the Unix/Linux host provide the ability to use database,
then they will provide you with access to MySql.

S

Suga

phew... ok, I took a deep breathe and read all of your information... I
know you where very clear in explaning it.... I appreciate that.

The host DOES provide a MYSQL database... but I do not know how to "use" or
set up the MYSQL

All I know is that I need order forms on the page... and I need them for the
affiliates.... I am going to give mini sites to affiliates and need order
forms (basic - with many options but not to send payment with them) with
THEIR (affiliates) names on the forms... plus forms for COMMENTS or
questions and for signups too.

I just have no idea now how to do this! If my FP2002 is not compatible with
the site I have now.

ugh! I purchased fp2002 to simplify my website designing.. I knew I would
have a lot to learn... but host issues...etc... ARGH!!! this is ridiculous!

BTW... yes, got the whole port21 and ftp.wahmwraps.com thing too * :) *

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Suga,

You can accomplish everything you have indicated with FP, as long as the
host has the FP extensions, and has configured the extensions to process
email and even staying on Unix/Linux servers.

The bigger issue is, do you need to have a database or use dynamic content,
if so, then in order to use the FP database component, you need to be hosted
on a Windows Server otherwise, you can still use FP, but you will have to
learn to hand copy in ASP or PHP and connect to MySQL.

All of my clients and myself are hosted on Windows 2000 server, as I only
work with ASP, Access and MS SQL server, so I can not offer you any help
regarding PHP or MySQL.

It appears that my host doesn't really care.

I emailed him everything.....

his reply was

"they work for me"

that was his entire response to my issues, component errors... need for
server switch...etc....

and they are NOT working (the forms) I went to bed and they were NOT
working.... I woke up and now they take you (when you hit submit) to a USER
SIGN IN for my site (huh ?!?!?!?) I did nothing to make that happen. I was
sleeping! *LOL*

My themes finally appeared last night and I went to bed... but I woke up and
they were GONE again.

I am completely confused.

I just thought I would let you know the latest.

I wonder if maybe I should get a new website elsewhere.

S

Suga

why would my form NOW ask me (not all of them though) to sign into my
network website?

what is that???
