FP 2003 - Upload Files Query

As a total newbie to frontpage, can somebody help me here a little
please ?

Have uploaded via an FTP (because my hosts dont support file
extensions for FP 2003)what I thought to be "all that was needed" for
my site to run properly, or so i thought. I have successfully uploaded
the Index, About Us, type of pages for the site (the ones I see when I
am working on them in FP), but now I also see a lot more folders in
view that look like they hold links and info to my site pages (such
as: vti_cnf, and things such as:
_derived/index.htm_cmp_blends010_bnr.gif).

My query is.....do i need to upload ALL FILES AND FOLDERS that are
visible in the FTP window to the site window for the site to function
correctly ? If so, do they all need to go into the "web" folder to
work or do they need to be uploaded to a different folder or something
else all together ?

Sorry if this seems stupid and everybody else knows the answers
automatically, but as I said, I really am totally new to this
software.

All files and folders need to be uploaded in the same structure as your local site
- the _vt* folders (FP configuration files) are not required on FTP sites
- the _overlay folders (Intermediate nav view text images) are not required on FTP sites
- the _borders folder (Shared borders) is not required on FTP sites, unless it has other content
- the _private folder is not required on FTP sites
All other_hidden folders are required
