fp 2003 upgrade

E

Erin Cox-Holmes

Hi--

I've got my fp 2003 upgrade ready to install on my machine using fp
2002.

Does it overwrite fp 2002 or install in a separate folder?

Will I need to republish my site?

Will it screw up any of the existing pages not created in fp2003, or is
it kind to older pages?

thanks so much,
Erin Cox-Holmes

If you do a custom install you can choose to keep prior versions.

Always do a full publish after any FP upgrade to make sure the meta files are updated to reflect the newer version

If you're going to do that then there is little need to dual install both
versions. Instead make sure you publish down, using FP2, prior to publishing
with FP3.

my question about the dual install would really be about this "root" question--

my web is a hodge podge of pages built, over the years, starting with fp98 and
no skill whatsoever all the way thru 2002 and moderate skill. I have time right
now to install the upgrade but not to go back and rebuild if fp2003 is not kind
to any screwed up code it encounters along the way.

so is it likely to bork the site if there's bad code on some of the older pages,
which still works okay in fp2002. If this is likely, then I would keep the 2002
install so I could republish the backup web if it nuked on the republish to
2003.

I hope the above makes sense....all of us nontechies out there truly appreciate
the time you guys-n-gals put in to helping us out...

Erin,

I would suggest keeping the prior version(s) installed until you are
comfortable working with the new version.

thanks;
do you know, as in the previous post, if any pages are likely to be screwed up
after publishing to 2003, if they currently open in 2002 but undoubtedly have
stupid coding errors?

I don't think you will see any problems with pages created/edited in FP2002,
maybe FP2000 and most likely with pages created in FP98.
