FP 2003 not connecting to root web

B

Bryan England

After working fine, now opening any web from the root in FP 2003 doesn't
work. I can open local versions, but no the live root. It starts to load,
but then just stops. I can open them on another computer with FP 2002 and
FTP.

Any ideas what has caused this?

Thanks
Bryan

1. Open the root Web.
2. Choose Web settings from the Tools menu, and then
click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Temporary Files, click the Delete Files button,
and then, click OK.
4. Choose Recalculate Hyperlinks from the Tools menu.
5. In Windows Explorer, find and delete all FP Temp
Files. By default, these reside in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\
Temp\FrontPageTempDir.
6. In Windows Explorer, find and delete all hidden *.web
files .
7. In Windows Explorer, find and delete the cmdui.prf
file.

FYI
I have XP Pro and running FP 2003.

Your steps to repair would be great, but I can't get the root web to even
load. That's my problem. If I start to open a root version in FP 2003, it
will nit open. Local version will.

CONFUSED!!

Just to add......

I also loaded FP 2000 and tried to open the root webs with the same result.
Could this be a virus issue or firewall? I have not had any problem getting
on the Internet via my cable modem. No other apparent problems.

Perhaps you have an old password cached somewhere. Try deleting all
FrontPage temp files, .web files, and cmdui.prf files, as I previously
suggested (steps 5, 6, 7).
