Hi,

My OS is Windows XP professional
I bought a new thumb drive (USB drive);
Manufacturer driver not suplied; as it is built-into XP

When I insert it into the USB port a baloon pops up - Found new
hardware.(mass storage device). However the "Found new hardware" wizard is
unable to find the required driver.

Where exactly does XP search for the required drivers?

I assume there would be a registry key which specfies the locations to be
searched.
Any idea what this registry key could be?

thx

Try this thing in another computer, and another flash drive with your
computer. Will it work now?

Yes, the thumb drive works on my home PC.
But for some reason the driver is not located/ installed on my @work desktop.

Could there be some restriction in place? What could it be?

Work may have a policy against adding new hardware, many places keep workers from using thumb drives
so they can't take stuff home on them.
