formatting problems

recently my computer froze and after turining it off and on again it was not
recognizing the O/S. after trying to reformat the drive it keeps shutting
down mid format and if i try a quick format it says there is a cycle error.
Could someone please help!!!

Maybe you still have a DOS version with good old fashion chkeck disk or
scandisk. Try this first , if not:
Suggest to go to the site of the manufacturer of your hard drive ( Seagate,
Maxtor, Fujitsu etc..)
They usually have a utility to test their model/type of Hard Drives.
Copy, install it to a bootable DOS diskette and boot your computer with this
floppy.
