I am attempting to format my hard drive and re-install
Windows and Office. This procedure is not in the book.
Can anyone please tell me how I'm supposed to do this?
I've backed up everything I need to, now I'm not sure what
to do!

Thanks!

Best regards,

Stephen

1. Instruct your BIOS to boot from the CD drive.
2. Boot the machine with your Win2000 CD.
3. Allow the disk to be formatted when prompted.
4. Install Win2000.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Pegasus:

I am attempting to format my hard drive also, and then reinstall Windows 2000.

You stated to:
1. Instruct your BIOS to boot from the CD drive.

Would I change this back once the formatting is done or does it
automatically change once the formatting is completed?

Why should it change back? The BIOS will always behave
according to the information you store in the CMOS memory.
If you want something different then you must change it
back again!
