Formatting changes on Rich Text email when sent.

I have to send out a Rich Text email to include attachments in the body of
the email. I format the whole email with Times New Roman, 12-pt font, but
when I hit "Send" the recipient receives my email in multiple fonts (Book
Antiqua, Arial, etc). Why does this happen and how can it be avoided?
 
Does the recipient use Outlook? Only Outlook can understand RTF.
