format harddisk - procedure

bobby

On my second box I now want to install XP Server. There box has two physical
disks. I am moving all data that I need to the smaller disk which btw is
NTFS.
The other disk has three partitions 1xFAT, 1xFAT32 and 1xNTFS for historical
reasons. (I wanted dual boot to win98 and W2k back then)

Anyway my questions are as follows:

1) Will I be able to access the Backup NTFS drive without problems? Anything
I need to remember?

2) Will XP setup give me all the necessary options to create one single
partition on the bigger drive and then install XP? Or how should I go about
doing this?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi bobby,

1) Ensure that you use NTFS when formatting the drive on which you're going
to install XP, and you should be able to access the Backup NTFS drive
without problems.

2) Yes, XP Setup has the necessary tools to delete/create/format the
partitions on the drive. If you had a partition on the drive that was
formatted for a file system that XP can't recognize (eg., ext2), then you
would need to use another method of deleting that partition.
