Force Automatic Updates?

P

Patrick

I have configured a workstation to automatically download
and install critical updates at a scheduled time through
group policy and the registry
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;328010&Product=win2000).

Works great (downloads succeed and install begins as
scheduled), but before installing, it prompts the user
with a "Do you want Windows to install the updates now?"
dialog box and a 5 minute timer.

Since the user can (and most probably will) choose to
cancel the update, I'm looking for a registry entry that
will either hide this dialog or force the update without
user intervention.

Any ideas?

Use the "Download and schedule the install" option in your
group policy. The user (if local admin) will still see a
status change and/or prompt but the install will happen
regardless next reboot. Page 51 of the deployment guide
lists this a a note.

Please let me know if you find a solution.
If you are a local admin, you need to install manually.
