Thick-cut pork loins that I marinated in Italian dressing and orange

wow .. and I had a "Fluffernutter" for dinner. ;->
I'll go read that now thanks. Latest update though:

I gave up on Nero7. I downloaded a few free isowriters. First one (
isoburn.zip): I unzipped and installed it but just got "cannot divide by
zero" pop-ups one after the other when I tried to use it. Second one
took a while to start , but then did work - CheetahDVDBurner.exe , so I
made the iso DVD at 1x . Horray !

I booted it and when I chose INSTALL , I got " One of your devices is
missing a driver - please insert disk." And I can't browse - it only
will access the floppy. Which driver is it missing? " I know, I'll
boot from the DVD that worked yesterday ( failed at 70% of install) and
then swap just before install starts. I put that one in - same error !
YESTERDAY that same DVD booted fine and the install started fine - I
chose the partition - off it went and kept failing at 70%. Today it
can't find a driver ???
I made no hw changes - am I on candid camera ? " Thank you sir, may I
have another?"

Please tell me that:
1. You have SATA hard drive(s) and, more importantly,
2. You have the drivers for the hard drives on a floppy

1. I do
2. I will in a second. Why ? You think it now wants the sata driver ?
and yesterday it didn't need it ?

BTW - don't be alarmed - everything else on my PC is fine. I can boot to
4 partitions - it's just that now the CD doesn't start the Vista
install.

It was a wild guess, actually, that the disc you had burned earlier was just
doing something to feel self-actualized, and not really anything to do with
installing Vista. Now that you have a disc that is doing all the right
moves, we can begin. So yeah, it wants the SATA drivers. This is a good
sign!

Now I have to go make more martinis, don't I? Isn't Beta testing fun?
(imagine Chevy Chase driving to Wally world in Vacation)

Ok : After I typed the last message and I wrote:
"YESTERDAY that same DVD booted fine and the install started fine - I
chose the partition - off it went and kept
failing at 70%. Today it can't find a driver ??? I made no hw changes.
" I thought - what IS different today - and it's only those 2 iso apps.
I uninstalled them, rebooted old CD - worked. ( meaning it got to "enter
the serial number"). I rebooted the new Cd - it took a LOT longer (
sounds like seek errors) but it worked too. Excellent. So I enter the
serial number and the new freaking CD says " cannot access the image
file" Installation failed.

That's it ! I'm going drinking !
Really I am : and to all a good night.

to all,
if you can't get your DVD to install vista and receive the above error code,
please make sure that you burn the ISO on the lowest possible speed.
That worked for me....:)

B

- Bobb -

Ron, what burning software do you use ?

( Andre - please read/respond to earlier part )

I've tried 1x and 4x - still no go. My problem still seems to be the x64
download - I've done it a few times and each time I get same checksum -
but it's different than Zack's / Andre's ( see my earlier message
below).

My x86 download does match the checksum and I'm burning it to DVD now -
but I really did want to use the x64 iso since I have an AMD64. I've
tried for a week now to get a good copy and I read last night of folks
that BOUGHT the DVD and getting this error too - I'll see if x86 at
least installs for me and be done with it.

As for choosing a "slower speed", I have Nero 7 and apparently that's
not an option ( per replies in dvd newsgroup). I was TOLD that DVD
burning apps check the media and burn at max speed ( my blank dvd media
is 4x). I was TOLD that if I want to burn at 1x or 2x to buy that
media - does that sound right to you ? I thought I should be able to
pick the speed but when Nero seneses the DVD the speed changes to max. I
know for CD's I can choose whatever I want. I've only burned a few DVD's
so I'm not sure. Nero's website was pretty useless for help.

I did download a few burning apps - tried burning at 1x. When I try to
boot, it doesn't even load so I figured I got what I paid for.

For those familiar with "what's going on" during the first part of the
install , I enter the license/ partititon to use and the install starts.
When I get to 74% of the first step (extraction), the CD stops reading
and I get my error. ( downloaded it a few times and burned it a few
times and its always 74% ) Might it be that at that point it's ...
checking my config ... or something ? rather than a coincidental read
error. I thought of popping out all but my video card ... but you guys
are sure about the correct checksum for x64 using the md5 verifier at
Zack's page ? If so I'll just give up on x64.

hi Bobb,
I'm using Nero 6 Ultra edition. If you can burn it at either 1x or 4x, and
you can read the DVD in winxp (to make sure, you would need to check a large
number of files all through the distro), then it would seem to be a problem
in the vista installation and probably depending on a combination of non
obvious factors...

As for the burning speed, depending on the media that you are using, your
software may either burn at one fixed speed or you get a choice (at least
thats how it is in Nero 6).

R

Ron Mooring

Although I agree that DVDs should be burned at their coded speed, it is
possible to burn them at a lower speed too (at least with Nero 6 Ultra
edition). initially burn a 4X DVD at 2X speed, and couldn't install vista
due to the installation giving an error after extracting about 34%. Then I
used another 4X DVD (same brand) to burn at 1X, and then the installation
worked like a breeze.

Ron,
Thanks for the Nero 6 info. I was trying to use Nero 7 to burn in XP -
not Vista - and couldn't change speed. So it is a Nero & issue. Next
rainy day I might just uninstall all of Nero - run the cleantools and
reinstall.
Thanks for the input.

I just started x64 download using " Getright" - estimate 6h and 45m @
175k so I turned off power mgmt and heading out for the day.

B

- Bobb -

It was going very slowly - after 32 minutes still had 6h and 42 min
left.
I canelled and went into config and setup 4 simultaneous segment
downloads and NOW it's moving. Rather than ~7h - SHOULD be done in 1h
50M @ 572k/sec.
That's more like it.

Andre,
How do I use that ?
It search for .exe and .nrg files. If I choose " All Files" and
double-click the .iso file I get a runtime error

Bobb:

That's what I said in my post. Nero's MD5 checker crashes on the Vista x64
..iso. Use the one Jane recommended. Trust me on this. I went through four
downloads and 36 hours of stress about it.

Arggggghhhhh !!!!!!!!
Walk me thru this MD5 verifier please ...
1. I download the file
I open the checker app.
I create a MD5 value - and it should match yours right ?

Andre - I cannot use your Nero exe program - it prompts to browse to the
file - BUT - I cannot BROWSE to .iso filetype - gets runtime C++ error.

Per Andre and Jane CHECKSUM should be
E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04

This is my THIRD download app and third MD5 checker
all of mine get the SAME , WRONG MD5 value ?
Each time I get:
8ec33bb91f4b8a364b349323cf5dcbda

Might it be that MY MD5 apps use, say, 4 byte blocks and yours uses 2
byte blocks to generate the input ?
I've downloaded/tried Hex Calculators to run it thru but I can't find
one that will accept a 4gb file ( for free anyway).
Here's what I 've gotten:

That installed failed at 74% of extraction
Did it again - same thing.

Later that day: another app - same result

I run a check:
" Testing MD5 sums in C:\Downloads\FCMD5-sums.MD5
OK:

Operation complete.

EVERY FILE APPEARS OK! " ( That's using the 8ec... value )

Yet it doesn't match anyone else's ??!!
What I am NOT DOING ?
I'm gonna burn this last file to a DVD , but waiting for input here and
re: Xp and X86 and X64 install - will it work or must I remove x86 ? Can
I upgrade x86 to x64 ?
