If you have troubles with installing Vista, and your'e sure everythings fine,
then try the following:

-Run a check to see if your ISO file is allright. (you can use Nero MD5)
-Burn it at a low speed or mount it with a program like DEAMON tools
-it might be completely broken, re-download it or order it.

I hope you all satisfied with this, i think mine's broken, so im going to
re-download it.

Good luck all on installing

I use the one from Ahead Nero
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html

Here are the MD5/CRC values for x86 or x64 depending on which every ISO you
downloaded:

x86
- File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes)
- CRC Value = 0x67E089E0
- MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773
x64
- File Size = 4.01 GB (4,309,368,832 bytes)
- CRC Value = 0x48697711
- MD5 Value = E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04

Paste the MD5 Checksum for either x64 or x86 depending on which one you want
check in Step 1, Step 2 - Browse to where you stored the ISO on your drive
and open it and it will automatically start the varification process and
generate the has in the third field, if it matches Step 1, then you are
safe.

I just tried to install Vista x64 Beta2 - twice - got this same
error at 74% . I chose Option #4 as Zack said at:Download - unzip- run it - select your ISO folder
It generates a file that ends in MD5 in that folder.
Open a NEW text document
Now - File-open- browse to that file
You will see that it's just a text file.
The checksum is on the same line as the filename.

My X64 download shows checksum is BAD - I have
8ec33bb91f4b8a364b349323cf5dcbda and it should be
E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04 per
http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted
Not even close !

Of course my X86 file is fine - I'm not using it on this PC !
Thanks guys. Gotta go download again - if I can .

If you have WinRaR installed it is killing the file. Dump WinRAR. You
should get an .iso image file that requires no unzipping. Just burn the
image to disc at the slowest possible speed your burning software supports.
MS reports that over three fourths of file copy errors are due to the burn
speed used.

You're right - although I typed "unzip", I dloaded the iso - not zipped
I used Nero Express ( nero7): selected DVD - iso and burned it at 2x ,
I did a "verify after burn" and got no errors at burn time , so I'm
d'loading again. when dload finishes, I'll check CRC and if good - start
the burn and go to bed.
I'll do it at 1x.

Hmmm...
I downloaded X64 Beta2 again and ran check again - and
I got the same (BAD ?) checksum:
8ec33bb91f4b8a364b349323cf5dcbda.

I'm gonna try one more time - start it and then "Bedtime".

before you get too discouraged, when I downloaded the x64 Beta, I checked
the file with four different apps: one gave me the wrong checksum, two gave
me the right checksum and Nero kept crashing. Burn the image to a DVD at
slow speed, and try it.

I'm using Nero 7 and just noticed - for my HP DVD writer, it writes at
4x and I cannot choose 1x or 2x from a dropdown.
I tried Nero Express - image and Nero Burning ROM - ISO.
The Nero manual says that if speed is not an option, I might have it "
determine maximum speed". I tried a simulated "Speed test" - it shows
37x ?? - still can't select speed. Trying simulation from Nero Burning
as I type and it shows write at 4x read at 34x , 35.5x - useless. If I
try Nero Express and a DATA DVD, I can choose speed, but iso image -
uses 4x and "greyed out".
Bedtime.

WinRAR itself is not killing the file. I have WinRAR installed, and yes,
..iso is one of WinRARs file extensions, BUT, a lot of people have the 'hide
file extensions for known file types' checked, so they do not see the .iso
extension that is there...all they are seeing is a WinRAR file. So they try
opening it with WinRAR which of course does not work (all they see is the
readme.txt).

The file most definitely IS an .ISO file.

When using Nero, don't use the Express interface, just use the Nero Burning
Rom application. When the New Compilation screen opens, just close it down
again (press the "x" in the top right). Then select File, Open and point it
to the downloaded .iso file. You don't need to tell Nero what type of DVD
it is and you should then be able to select any write speed (depending on
the media used).

Thanks very much.
I have to reboot to add the drive back. I'll try it now and let you know.

I understand your struggles. I can't come up with a better way to burn the
DVD, because it seems that you have the mechanics and the tools in place.
Nor can I offer a suggestion as to why you cannot burn at a slower speed.

I can offer some insight as to why, on a burner with a theoretical top speed
of 16x you are only offered a max speed of 4x: Nero looked at the blank
media in the tray, and I'll bet $0.25 that the blank DVD is rated as 4x.

Also, disable your AV software and, maybe you have already done this, go
into your "Task Manager" (Start>Run>"taskman">Enter) and shut down some of
the things that are running that may be interfering with the burn process by
spiking the CPU usage.

No guarantees, of course, but maybe it will help.

Installed the NERO updates, rebooted - same thing - cannot modify speed of
DVD burn.
I've been thinking - when I bought the HP DVD, it came with an OEM NERO
I then bought the store-bought full version - maybe THAT's the issue ? I
would think the store-bought version would have the same utility as the OEM
provider. I've only written 2 DVD's - data - and I didn't mess with speed
option prior to this.
I just checked the specs at HP and the 635iDVD writes UP to 16x , so why
only 4x as an option - not 1x, not 8x, nor 16x?
Any ideas ? If not, maybe I'll email HP tonite.
Thanks again.

I just checked - you're exactly right.
Stamped right on the DVD is 4X . So, I removed the media: I THEN have
an option of 1x, 2x , 2.4x and 4x.
I chose 1x - got a "insert media" message - good. I popped blank in the
drawer, closed - DVD led blinks occasionally and I hear a faint noise
that sounds like a card in the spokes of a kid's bike with wheel
turning. Just hangs. Exited Nero - same thing with different DVD disc -
waited a few minutes - same faint noise for maybe 2 minutes. I then
tried - choose 2x from the dropdown - insert media and wait.(no click on
BURN) Once it detects a blank DVD, the speed changes to 4x and it's my
only choice ! There's definitely a " use only highest speed possible"
bit set somewhere. Found nothing at HP - heading to google.

I also tried Nero Express with no media - chose 2x - burn - inserted
blank DVD - it started burn - AT 4X !!!!
Still googling ( or is it GOOGLEing ?)

There is a lot of burning software out there, you may still be trying to
copy at 1x when RC1 arrives. I didn't know they still sold 4x, even in RW.

(I feel like Lloyd Bridges in Airplane - " I picked a bad day to quit
smoking" , drinking etc )

Andre,
I can't get the DVD to install. ( Trying to see if burn issue or bad
checksum). Since I keep getting the same - different from yours -
checksum, I just downloaded the Nero MD5 verifier file that you
mentioned and ran it. I get an error message when I try to run it on a
an iso file - "wrong type". How did YOU get it to work ? And maybe
that's why I have different checksum ??
You folks that have been successful in burning DVD ( Zack ?) , if you
use FileCheckMD5 checker referenced on
http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted , do you get the same
checksum as Andre ?

E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04 ?
Or

It's still raining so gonna try something other than nero - since with
it I'm only creating coasters

Thanks, Jane! I have been searching for three hours (well, that and mixing
martinis and barbequing) for that little checker program for Bobb.

- Bobb - Try this very good walk through from MVP Jonathan Maltz.

http://vista.visualwin.com/check-iso/ There is a link to a very nifty
little md5 checker included, with instructions on its use.
Worked for me :)
