How can I keep footnotes on the same page as the text
citation (which is required format for a dissertation)?
i.e., How do I keep footnotes from being placed on or
continuing to a following page?

if referring to footnotes in printed documents see the
document "page setup" under the 'file' toolbar button.

might have to reset for each document.
page to page on same document should ok.

Windows XP is an operating system. Your question deals with
the use of an application.

What word processor do you use, MS WORD will be different to
some degree from MS WORKS and each will be different from
Corel WordPerfect.

Typically there will be an "insert" menu with footnotes or
it might be on a format menu. Use the HELP with the
application and search for "footnotes" and "endnotes" and
you should find the information. It might also be on a page
setup (under print).

Greetings --

Read the manual and/or Help files for whatever word processing
application you're using? WinXP is an operating system and has
absolutely nothing to do with the placement of footnotes.
