FOOTNOTES

I'm trying to do Chicago style citation which requires footnotes. I have been
unable to figure out how to do a different footnote for every page. It
automatically carries over the ones on the first page. How do I change them
on every page?

Are you saying you want to restart the numbering of footnotes on each
page at 1?

What you describe sounds like a footer (as in headers & footers),
which has nothing to do with footnotes.

No.

For example, I want page 1 to have footnotes that cite one author. Page two
should cite a different author. However, when I type a footnote in page one
it automatically copies it to page two.

That suggests that you have created the footnote as a footer instead of a
footnote. Use Insert | Reference | Footnote to insert footnotes.

Ahhhhh duh. That was it, thank you!!!

You're welcome. The distinction between footer and footnote, header and
heading is extremely important in Word!

Hi Suzanne, Dennis here.

I'm doing a free information seminar for graduate students and am wanting to
tap into an on-line tutorial about the Reference/citation function. Does one
exisit? I have not found it yet. Any clues?

Thanks

There has been plenty of discussion of the subject (and the
unsatisfactoriness of the feature) in this NG, but I don't know of any
online tutorial or manual, no.

YouTube contains several videos demonstrating the tool (e.g.:
is pretty good)
