Footnotes in master document

I have an urgent problem. I have a master document consisting of 8 chapters
with footnotes restarting from in 1 in each new chaper. In ch. 5 I have 3
different sections (due to different page sizes). The first section ends with
footnote no. 11 how do I make the notes continue with 12 in the next section?
It either begins with 1 or if I choose continued with 71. Can anyone help?

Sorry, I don't have an answer because I don't use Master Documents. However,
you may need the reason I don't more than you need an answer. "Master
Document" is a term of art in Word referring to a "feature" that not only
doesn't work but also destroys documents. The consensus (with the limited
exception of Steve Hudson) among those offering advice on these newsgroups
is that using the Master Document feature is a good way to destroy your
document. It can destroy parts of your document that you are not even
working on! I think John McGhie said it succinctly when he said that there
are two kinds of Master Documents: Those that are corrupt and those that
will be corrupt soon. See

Thanks for trying to help me. But if I use separate chapters and print them
individually, can the problem with the sections and the consecutive notes be
helped in any way? Thanks

No, I don't think so. I think this is a bug/design flaw in Word. Section
breaks within chapters really messes up your footnote numbering. Supposedly
Word 2002 promised to make this possible, but it doesn't work.

I'm guessing you've got a landscape page in the middle there. Ugly
workaround--just leave a blank page for landscape page (no section breaks,
just two page breaks), print the landscape page separately with the
appropriate page number hand-typed, and slide it in at the end of editing.
