Footnote numbering using section breaks

O

Omar

Hi all,

My book manuscript is divided into chapters and I start the footnotes at
Number 1 for each chapter. However, several chapters have section breaks (to
allow the inclusion of tables that landscape, and not portrait). Using the
options in Word, the footnotes after the section break can either begin again
at Number 1, or else continue on from the very first footnote in Chapter one.

What I would it to do is simply to continue the footnote numbering from
before the section break in the same chapter. Is there a solution using
footnotes or is there an alternative to section breaks for temporary changes
from portrait to landscape orientation?

Cheers, Omar

Unfortunately, the restart options for footnotes don't work properly in
Word, as you have seen. Also, there are no alternatives to section breaks if
you must change the orientation within the text. What you can do is keep the
footnote numbering in sequence through-out the document (or perhaps set them
to restart for each page).

Click on the Header & Footer Tools Design tab, then click on the page number
drop down list in the Header & Footer grouping. Click Format Page Numbers.
Under the Page Number format click the opposite of what you chose.
