Footnotes, columns, & section breaks

While trying to write a paper for a journal, I have come across a problem
that I hope someone knows a solution for. Formatting dictates that the title
and authors be listed centered across the entire page. The body of the paper
is divided into two columns per page starting under the centered document
title/author list (this was achieved using a continuous section break). If I
then try to add a footnote that references the Title or Authors, the body of
the paper is sent to the next page and the first page is left with a title,
authors, whitespace, and then the footnotes. Very confused. Anyone know a
fix or a different way to format this?

I figured out the answer to my question. There was a previous post
addressing this topic, but given that I was unsure if it was a problem with
the columns, page breaks, or footnotes (or combination thereof), I was unsure
where to look. Here is a reference to the post (not sure if I did this
correctly) and immidiately following is the link where the solution resides.
Pretty frustrating, but I guess it is better than having to type the whole
dag-nabbed thing with a typewriter...
