Fool Me Twice...... ATI got me

Viewsonic monitors are very good as a matter of fact. I had one and it
never let me down. I know several people that are very satisfied with their
viewsonic monitor.

Post some links. I would like to see this "information" that you say that
you found on google.

That was not my point. Viewsonic monitors are a 'price point' mfg. Period.
I've used them, for over ten years, in industry. Yes, they are good. But,
they are budget, plain and simple.

How about my P225fb?

The VP2290 is "budget"? Do tell.

In point of fact they do make a "price point" line, "Optiquest" but they
make a number of other product lines as well.

For all who've followed this thread, I just got off the phone with
ATI.

Their words "Oh yes, we see this problem quite a bit. It's a bug we're
working on"

My words "so you're saying this is in fact an ATI issue, and not the
supposed 2k/XP 60hz bug?"

Their words "no, this an issue with our driver. The 2k/XP bug is on a
game level, not desktop"

He then had me create an incident report to be sent to a specialist.

So for all you ATI groupies, there's your smoking gun.

For the record - I was VERY hopeful ATI had gotten their driver issues
resolved. Their hardware has always been top quality. Their weakness
was always on the driver side of things. If they can resolve this
issue, they will have slayed the dragon in my eyes. The gaming side of
this card and their drivers seems to be top notch.

And for whoever said Viewsonic's were 'budget' monitors, please put
the crack pipe down. Had you looked up my monitor, you would've
noticed the "P" stood for 'professional'. New, this thing was like
$1700 US - I'd call that budget only if you're Bill Gates. As someone
stated, the Optiquest side of their company is the more budget minded
monitor, but even they are usually outstanding products.

Ati's drivers as Nvidia drivers have always been involved in 'issues' when it came to the newest and latest so, your right and it
still happens. However, your problem is 'specific' hardware related. IOW the average user is most likely not going to experience the
problems you are. Not sure of your specs any longer (if they were posted) but if its the latest and greatest of hardware all round
then you know as well as anybody, that your the 'beta' tester, as I have been, but I bit the bullet and went in knowing....

Nope, Optiquest is the Viewsonic budget line. I wouldn't say no to a
higher end Viewsonic.

I have a great ViewSonic monitor, it is sharper and clearer than my
almost-new top-of-the-midrange Dell Inspiron's screen, and a huge
improvement over the old monitor I was using. The ViewSonic parts are
considered some of the best price-point high-end monitors available, and, as
Cobblers mentioned, are accompanied by the budget OptiQuest line, also good
monitors for mtheir cost.

Sure, the ViewSonic's are not going to compare to a Sony F520, but hey, only
those in need of an absolute top-tier, price-is-no-object monitor are going
to fork out the green to pay for one of those. Heck, if I had money to throw
away, I'd get one too, and a huge Panasonic flat screen for my DVI-out too.

So I left the ranks of the nVidia owners, and bought two cards, a 9200
for my workstation and a 9600 Pro for my play machine. Both did the
exact same thing......

*($^%^#%^*( REFRESH RATE PROBLEM!

What moron at ATI keeps whatever idiot in programming, that cant write
a driver to save his life? First of all, I dont want to hear that it's
an "XP Problem" because it is not. I have NEVER had another card do
this - not nVidia, not Savage, not even taiwan onboard junk.

Regarding your issue related to ATI video card and low refresh rate
in games, I can tell you that Nvidia cards also have the same problem
in Windows 2000/XP especially in the early days when the video card
drivers did not have the option to specify refresh rate override. As
the matter of fact, my old Voodoo 3 also has the same problem.

I have used Voodoo 3 and Geforce 3 in Windows 2000 Pro and GeForce 3
and Radeon 9600 XT in Windows XP. All three cards have low refresh
rate problem in full screen games unless you specify refresh rate
override in the driver or using tweak utility such as RivaTuner or
Rage3D.

One solution to get around the issue when there were no tweak
utilities for override refresh rate is to modify the minimum vertical
refresh rate in Windows 2000/XP registry. To do that, just run
"regedit" and use the find function to search for all instances of
"Mode1" key. If any "Mode1" key contains string value such as
"30.0-95.0,60.0-160.0,+,+", I would change it to
"30.0-95.0,85.0-160.0,+,+" where 85.0 HZ would become the *minimum*
vertical refresh rate Windows will use *regardless* of the screen
resolution. This solution does not require refresh rate override
specified in the video card driver or tweak utility.

I guess you did not have the refresh rate problem with Nvidia card
possibly because the driver you installed already have the proper
refresh rate override specified or you have installed a tweak utility
and turned on refresh override. And if I remember correctly once you
have the proper refresh override specified, all subsequent new
installations of video card driver or tweak utility will *inherit* the
refresh rate override you already specified.

Regarding your reply....had you read the entire thread (which is now over a
month old), you would realize that this 'troll' claims it is the Desktop
refresh rate. Hence, all of your following words (which I've snipped) are
irrelevent.

Just Wondering

Judge:

I am running a 9500pro, after using a Ti4200. Ran into the same issues of
screen flicker, which I know from expierience is the refresh. I had to screw
around with the settings for the card, I am using th ATI issued latest
drivers. My pick is that the refresh I now have I had to adjust for my
monitor (samsung 955df with xp driver),. The card locked in the refresh at
60khz, and I had flicker galore. I ran the resoulution on my Ti4200 at
1600x1200, the ATI gave me a rolling desktop when I used that resolution,
and I had to reduce it to 1280x1024 in order to keep it from scrolling from
side to side and top to bottom.
