I want to know how to go about getting Japanese fonts for
my computer. I can't buy any - it's a waste of money. I
just figured that we gets all sorts of English fonts for
free with our copies of Windows, and Japanese people get
all sorts of Japanese fonts for free with their copies of
Windows, so why can't I get all sorts of Japanese fonts
with my English copy of Windows? My default system
language is already Japanese, but I only got a couple
Japanese fonts out of that deal, and they all look the
same. Any suggestions?

All you had to do was a Google search and you would have gotten plenty
of hits. Try this free Asian font site:

The fonts you suggest there, most are merely Asian-style
English alphabet fonts. The ones that do use Japanese
characters are not the kind of Japanese fonts I mean -
they merely replace the individual characters with
Japanese ones. I need a font that includes all Hiragana,
Katakana, and Kanji characters. These font files are
generally TTC format and are 5-8 Mb in size, because they
contain literally thousands of characters.

Hi Gregory:

For Katakana, Hiragana, and Kanjii fonts that are all inclusive,
you'll probably have to go commercial if the Japanese IME and language
fonts included with XP are not sufficient. You can do a search using
Google or Yahoo, but I don't think you're going to find those fonts
for free.

You can try this site:

It's mostly for instruction on how to install the Asian IMEs, however,
he also has some links to other sites that may help. Good luck in
your hunt.
