Windows has never installed either Geneva or Helvetica -
Linotype knocked off Helvetica, modified it and renamed it
Arial. Then they sold the licence to MS. Geneva is a Mac font.
Whatever your problem is (and I can't begin to guess as you've
not described it properly at all) it isn't related to either
font. The only thing I can think is you've been randomly
deleting fonts and you've deleted something essential.
You won't find either font on the Windows CD.
Sorry I was so vague before. Yes, someone has been deleting fonts.
I didn't think the fonts I mentioned were the missing ones but I'm
trying to figure out what IS missing. I can't see some fonts on
certain sites. One ex: I tried to send a comment on my niece's
livejournal site and I couldn't read what I was writing in the box
that came up. I wandered over here in desperation. I couldn't find
any information on my computer, on Microsoft or the knowledge base
about what fonts are installed in Windows XP. My wife likes to
download & install custom fonts & "clean things up". She has learned
her lesson & promises she won't delete any more fonts. I just want
to try & solve the problem for her...& for me. Thanks for the
previous post Cerriden. You do know your fonts! Any additional help
would be great.
Well, I'll do my best. What I should have said was (I was tired last night!)
that Geneva was Helvetica for the Mac (obvious if one thinks about it - what
country is known as 'Helvetica'?) therefore - to all intents and purposes -
they're the same font.
The link below is a table that shows all the fonts installed by XP. My gut
feeling is that Tahoma's gone astray, but if your desktop icons are OK, then
it's probably still there (Tahoma is used for all on-screen text).
Have a look at the list below and compare it to what you have in your fonts
folder.

If you find any missing, it may be easier to try a system restore than to
extract from the CABs on the XP CD (assuming you have a CD and you're not
using a HP or something that installs from a hidden partition).
Any further problems, don't hesitate to post back.
Blessed Be,
Cerri
P.S. Suggest you show that list to the other half and make her memorise it!
