Font in Insert Symbol Font List

How do I get a font (that IS loaded on my system) to appear in the
Insert...Symbol list?

The font does appear in my listing of Fonts on the Fonts dropdown list in
the Formatting toolbar.

I would like to go to Insert...Symbol and choose the font there and then
insert the appropriate characters.
Thanks.

If it is not listed, then you must have Word 97 or earlier, in which the
Symbol dialog lists only "decorative" (symbol) fonts. There are two ways to
work around this:

1. Change the font in the document before opening Insert | Symbol. The
"(normal text)" setting will then be in the desired font.

2. Type in the font name exactly as it appears in the Font dropdown.

I really do have Word2000 and the font does not show up. It is a font that I
have loaded recently (it was not available when Word was installed). Will
that matter?

I had gotten it to work the way you describe below, but I really needed it
to work as a font choosen in the drop down list.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Since I skipped Word 2000, I'm not sure it doesn't work the same way as Word
97; if that is the case, then you probably won't be able to get it to show
up except as described. Have you restarted Word since you installed the
font?

You are right, 2000 must work the same as 97. My Word2000 both at home and
work don't show the font. I had found documentation to get it to show for
macWord and I was hoping there was a way to get it to show for Word2000.

Thanks for all your help. Atleast I can stop trying now. Thanks!
