Followup : TS redirect printer setup

Update...Finally I was able to get the printer mappings
working but I have an additional question. The names of
the printer queues change each time the client logs in.
This is a problem because the users use an application
that has the name of the printer specified in the
settings. Is there a way to set the name of the RDC
redirect printer when it is created, perhaps a more
friendly name than _[computer name]_[Printer friendly
name]/[computer name]/[session number] ie. _hercules_HP
Business Inkjet 2600 PCL 5C/ASSI1/Session 31

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I created a script a little while ago to do something like
this. It takes your default printer's name, Business
Inkjet 2600 PCL 5C/ASSI1/Session 31, and turns it into
this, HP Business Inkjet 2600 PCL 5C, thus stripping away
some of the information that you don't need.

It only works on Windows 2000 right now, but hopefully I
can fix that soon enough. Here's a link:

http://terminal.servebeer.com/download/renameprinter.zip

I don't have the accompanying tutorial for it, but the
script is pretty self explanatory. Just put it where the
rest of your logon scripts go and call it from your logon
script. If you have any feedback or bug reports, please
contact me directly.

I am having problems with redirect printers on a windows
2000 terminal server with win2k clients connecting with
Remote Desktop Client via the internet. I have the remote
desktop client to map local printers and the settings for
RDP on the terminal server are set to allow printer
redirects. I have installed the same driver on the client
computers as on the server. I was told to install the
drivers on the server then delete the print queue and that
would leave the drivers intact. Once that was completed,
I logged off the terminal server and logged back on but no
printer was listed. I can setup a temporary solution by
adding the printer to the terminal session and selecting
one of the temporary TS00X ports, but that is not a
permanent solution. I don't know if it matters, but I
installed the drivers through a terminal server connection
using an administrative account. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris
