Remote printer names in TS session

Is it possible to change the name of a remote printer
that's created in a TS session? Or make a static printer
for that user only that points back to the users remote
printer?
Specifically, the app I'm dealing with requires "printer
control queue's (pcq)" set up that point to the name of
the printer. So when user1 logs in first, their printer
is "printerX/session1", user2 logs in second and their
printer is "printerY/session2", etc. Map pcq's to these
names. User2 logs in first next time, and they
get "printerY/session1" which, obviously, is a different
name, and therefore they're unable to print to the remote
printer from the app. Any help would be greatly
appreciated, thanks.

What you're looking to do is possible. There is a third party piece of
software called Simplify Printing by triCerat, www.triCerat.com, which you
may want to look at since it already has the option of incorporating the
session number into the printer name.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Colin, is there any way to do it without using a
third party app? Registry modifications maybe? Thanks
again.

It's entirely possible. However, I'm unaware of how one might do it. I'll
keep an eye on this thread as I'd be very interested in finding out.

Good Luck,

Hehe, ok so will I, lol. One thing I have noticed is that
I can change the name of the printer 'post-connect' and it
still prints to the remote printer, guess it's the port
that matters, not the name. Right now researching how to
change the name using a .reg file, if that won't work it's
time to look into WSH or maybe writing something to do it
upon logon. Thanks again.

Zoal, I wrote a batch script that renames printer names.
I tested it a bunch of times, and you are welcome to check
it out.

If you have problems with it, please let me know as I
haven't written up any information about it yet...

The script basically renames your default printer to not
have the session number.

That was me in the last post, sorry. Though it might not
even be an issue now, new problem. I was testing using my
workstation at the office, and now began deploying to 1st
remote, who needs it most, and will be the only one using
TS till I get it figured out, printing-wise. Since they
are the only remote, it will always be printerX/session1.
But the problem I'm running into now is that I cant get
the printer to redirect. It's a usb printer on a 98 pc,
2000 TS server. Is this possible? Some say that usb
printing on 98 clients isnt supported in rdp. Others say
that we just need win2k SP2. Any idea? Thanks again
everyone.

Is the eventlog of the terminal server reporting that it
can't find a suitable driver for the client's redirected
printer?
