Inactive TS port

XP and Windows 2000 Pro clients attaching to a WIndows
2000 Terminal server remotely. I am able to go into
control panel printers and created the printer for each
session and it works. But when the user logs out and
logs back in they lose the printer. The ports are all
listed as "Inactive TS port". I ACN select another TS
port based on the client's machine name. I have to guess
until I get the right one, then it works. However, the
NEXT time they log out and back in the ports change
again, and then there are different ports listed as
Inactive TS port? Then you have to set it up again. Any
ideas what is going on here?

You shouldn't need to do anything of this. Redirection of client
printers should happen automatically and transparent to the user.
And as you have noticed, the TSxxx ports are assigned dynamically
to the sessions, so this is definitively not the way to go.

I would first make sure that you are using the latest 5.2.3790 rdp
client, which will redirect both locally attached and network
printers. Then make sure that printer redirection is enabled on
the server (TS Connection Configuration - rdp-tcp properties -
client settings) and the client ("Local Resources").

If you still don't see your local printers within your session,
check the EventLog for error messages. Might be a mismatch in the
printer driver name.
