There's a radio program here in the US called "Car Talk" that plays on
National Public Radio. I won't go into it because it is rather
difficult to describe, but imagine two MIT-educated comedians
dispensing car advice. Anyway, occassionally, they will contact someone
from the past and ask the caller if their car advice worked. Sometimes
yes, sometimes the problem with the car was entirely something else.

It would be nice if, on this newgroup, people who do ask questions and
get them answered correctly would then repost their original question
and the correct solution. Perhaps they could start the subject line
with "Solved:" so we have a search key to look for. That would
certainly help others who try to search the group for solutions but
generally give up because promising threads end up going nowhere, or
are just too circuitous to be of any use.

Good idea!! "Stump the Chumps" meets Usenet.
