When I start up my pc 'C' drive which is my hard drive is automatically
opening on the screen. This never used to happen, have I changed some
settings and don't know about it. I did have a spyware/adware problem which
has now resolved. Maybe this did it. Anyhow, can anyone tell me how to stop
this happening. Thanks in anticipation.

Have you checked your Startup folder in Start - Programs - for any unusual
entry?

Let us know!

Hi speedy, this is caused by failed attempt to run a program, maybe one that
has been uninstalled and the entry left behind in the registry.

I prefer to remove the entry from the registry but if you are not familiar
with regedit take great care.

Start with the system configuration utility.
Start -> Run, type msconfig and click ok
click on the startup tab and look down the list for the culprit (may have no
name or something you know to be removed) remove the tick to disable it. (if
you intend to use regedit to remove it from the registry make a note of the
other information for that entry in the list)
ok out and restart.

if you intend to remove the entry from the registry read this first -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q136393

Let us know how you get on.
Good luck,
Martin

Hi thanks for your info, had a little look in the registry, but was unsure
what should be there and what not. I know I was having so many problems last
week that I have deleted files that I did not know anything about as I seemed
to have adware and all sorts of things were going on. I really don't know
what to do. This has never started until this adware and spyware came along.
I have installed Norton over the weekend and it has tidied up for me, but
not this. I thought if I logged into packard bell they would give me some
ideas, but I dont appear to be asking the right thing as I cannot find my
selection. If you can think of anything else for me to try can you let me
know. many thanks

Hi thanks. Had a look, but really not sure what I am looking for. What type
of things would be unusual?

Check in Msconfig for any oddities.
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.

Hi Alan, I hope this all makes sense to you because it is as clear as mud to
me. Hope you manage to help me. Many thanks for your time. Sending it in
two lots as it is too big

Sorry Alan doesn't matter how many times I try to paste it and send it it is
far too long.

That's OK.
I have never seen such a long report and I have no idea what most of
them are.
I have 22 items in my Startup Programs and I would worry if I saw
something like yours.

For the immediate problem, use Msconfig and disable a few and reboot
until you find the cause.

You might try and check out some of your startup items to see if you
need them.
Here are a few startup sites.
